On The Issues
The POWER to VOTE
Voter apathy is a major contributing factor to the lack of accountability exhibited by elected officials. Comparatively, West Virginia lags behind other states around the country and ranks very low in per capita income to say the least. Businesses have moved out of state, taking jobs and families with them. The solution to our problem, in part rests on the shoulders of voters themselves.
As Americans, many of which often contemplate the issue of whether or not “Voting” is an obligation or an exercise in futility. That mindset in all account is appalling and points to the fact that many of our citizens take our democracy for granted. This is a fundamental disregard to our “Sacred Right” to vote, which flies in the face of the sacrifices made by this nation to promote, defend and protect democracy here at home and around the world.
When elected, my office will find innovative ways and means to bring about a positive change to motivate registered voters to participate in the process. With about 40% average turnout in Presidential/Statewide elections and even less for local elections, people in West Virginia are frustrated because they believe their votes don’t count.
Restoring voter confidence is key, for which I am very passionate and committed to by virtue of my personal experience, background and very high level of appreciation of American democracy.
Therefore, to paraphrase the question “To VOTE” or “Not to VOTE”…….that is the issue.
